Testing after big overhaul!

The past week has been crazy busy!, many gameplay tweaks, effects, monsters, level redesign, menu changes and presentation have been made!. The game really feels much better and polished this time! :-) . Not that I was bad before, but now it’s really more intuitive and easier to pickup and play than before. Also the multiplayer is handled in a much better way (in my opinion). There are really cool new effects and the monsters are more manageable this time around…. except in the insane levels :)

Soon It will be really for final release… I hope :-)

In playtest!

After an unsucessful attempt to get the game release. I’m back to the testing-testing mode. However, the good news is that Shadows has got new features and the game is even better!, check this out:

  • Idols dropped by creatures are visible for a small period of time, making it easier for the player to know the aprox location
  • Idols dropped now slowly sink to the bottom of the city, this does allow a player to pick idols more quickly since you don’t necessarily have to wait for them to get to bottom to pick them up … this can be handly in the middle of fight!
  • By pressing and holding the Y button, the submarine can produce air, the catch is that it get’s damaged by doing so. This can be handy if running out of air and no air idols are close.
  • There are now more messages to teach new players how to play. Also in the first 2 levels, the submarine computer announces when large number of creatures come towards you. This can help the player prepare for it.
  • Fixed a problem with the game crashing when a controller with no profile was used to play the game and storage could not be accessed. Now the game can enter into “no save mode” if storage cannot be accessed.
  • Fixed few map layout issues
  • Continue now takes you directly to the door that starts the level
  • Charge Torpedoes: Now you can charge your torpedoes by holding the right trigger. Although this causes a bit overheat, the powerful red torpedo might kill all enemies in it’s path!. This can be a real help to deal with some of the big fights that you encounter in this game.
  • Fixed a couple of map issues.
  • Fixed some text issues in the tutorial.
  • Changed the trailer to fix text.

These are some of the changes so far… and it all comes down to create a better game. So after all I’m glad it failed release test, I really think these features are going to make a big difference at the end.

Have been days of testing and testing but feel that finally the game seems balanced and stable…. Still need to test the higher difficulty levels… :/

Finally after few months of hard work, The Shadows in the Underworld is complete and almost ready for the Microsoft XNA 2010 challenge:http://www.dreambuildplay.com/main/default.aspx

The Shadows in the Underworld features:

  • Huge Randomly Generated Labyrinths
  • AI Director, the director will change the pace and tension of the game dynamically, making it impossible to the player to predict what will come next.
  • Find your way in dark underwater places where using your light will be key to survive.
  • Single player and Local Coop!
  • More than 15 huge levels on story mode with more than 4 hours of gameplay (critical path)
  • 4 Difficulty levels
  • Finish the game to unlock the Caverns of Madness game mode!, in this mode you will need to survive chamber after chamber filled up with hordes of creatures from beyond!!, collect the keys and exit before it’s too late!.
  • High scores for each level and difficulty setting.
  • Based on Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos!
  • Smooth and addictive gameplay.

In the next few weeks, we will test as much as we can and fix as much bugs as possible =)
